Ps5: Sony Implements 360 Reality Audio On PlayStation
While Microsoft currently relies increasingly on established sound formats such as DTS: X or Dolby Atmos on the Xbox One to create 3D surround sound, the PS4 is content with simple surround sound gaming.
This could possibly change in the future, but with its own 360 Reality Audio, as the Japanese currently suggest. While this technology is currently only for music use, according to Kichiro Kurozumi – Head of the Branding and Product Planning Division of Sony’s Video and Sound Products – there is potential to extend that technology to other areas, such as gaming.
Kurozumi said :
“We want to start very, very simple, so that we can create a good foundation for a future-proof technology. Of course, we will think about two or three directions in the future. One of them, obviously, applies 360 sound to videos. But we also think about how it would apply to games. Especially in an interactive capacity. “
This would finally allow the sound to be played on multiple levels while playing, creating an even more immersive experience. 360 Reality Audio creates a three-dimensional sound field, according to the official description, in which the various sounds can be projected from any location within a 360-degree space based on Sony’s object-based spatial audio technology. Basically the same principle as DTS: X, Dolby Atmos or Auro 3D, when speaking of object-based sound.
When and if one day at PlayStation games is expected, remains to be seen at present. Here is a video that explains 360 Reality Audio on the basis of music.
