Epic Wants To Spend $ 100 Million On Developers – Sponsored By Fortnite

Epic Games, the developers behind Fortnite, have announced a new sponsorship program called Epic Megagrants. They want to spend $ 100 million on developers as long as they use the Unreal Engine.

What is Epic Megagrants?

Recently, Epic CEO Tin Sweeny announced that they are launching the Epic Megagrants program. It’s a massive $ 100 million funding pool. It will benefit developers, filmmakers, companies and open source projects that qualify for the program. The money is likely to come largely from the huge revenue that Epic has generated by the hit Fortnite.

100,000,000 US dollars without a hook

How do you get the money? Who wants to participate in the program, must register only on the side of Epic Megagrants and represent his project as attractive as possible.

Epic then checks to see if it’s good for funding. It will then give scholarships between 5,000 and 500,000 US dollars.

What are the conditions? According to Tim Sweeny, the system is without hooks and hidden traps. The only condition is to use the Unreal Engine from Epic in the realization of the project.

The finished project must in no way continue to be associated with Epic and also not be distributed through the Epic Shop. So you could do whatever you wanted. The funding also has no deadline, you can apply for money until the pool is empty.

Why is Epic doing this?

First, Epic pushes the benefits of its Unreal Engine. That alone can only be right for the company. And then, of course, it’s a good idea to not only bunker your money as a million-dollar company but also to invest in charitable activities such as the mega-grants program.

Incidentally, such generosity is a tradition at Epic: ES already had a program called Unreal Dev Grant, which provided $ 5 million to Unreal Engine developers.

And then Epic provided $ 25 million to help Unreal Engine developers affected by the dispute between the developers of Unity and the specials engine.
