The Kevin Feige statements on Marvel Studios’ willingness to engage Keanu Reeves have unleashed a true “hunt to the role.” After Dan Slott’s suggestion for Moon Knight, here’s another preference from a well-known cartoonist.
The writer Marvel Donny Cates, famous above all for his work with Venom is, in fact, certain that Reeves would be the perfect interpreter of Shang-Chi, a character who will debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a stand-alone film.
“From someone who has spent 4 hours in a room with Keanu Reeves creating history, I can tell you that the role you want for him is Shang-Chi. Trust me,” wrote Cates in a post on Twitter now deleted (via Comicbook. com).
Waiting to learn more about the Shang-Chi film, which will probably be presented to the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con or the D23 Expo in August, the latest rumors suggest that Marvel actually intends to hire an oriental actor: potential candidates would be Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) and Ross Butler (Thirteen).
At the moment the only certainty is that the film will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the director who distinguished himself for his works Short Term 12 and Il Castello di Vetro, both films starring Captain Marvel himself, Brie Larson.
