Job postings posted on the Blizzard Career page generally provide a good overview of their upcoming projects. A brand new offer shows that Blizzard is working on a new FPS project with a shared engine.
Blizzard has recently published a new job offer for a “senior combat designer” who will work on a “non-advertised project”.
We can read on this offer:
“Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented and passionate senior / combat designer with FPS design experience who can lead combat design for a non-advertised multiplayer project.”
It immediately makes your mouth water!
It is also requested that the candidate has “proven experience of design, play, controls, weapons and abilities for modern multiplayer AAA titles” but also “a deep passion and knowledge of Blizzard franchises”.
It remains to know now what it is.
In 2018, IGN announced that Blizzard seemed to have a new project in mind: a first-person game for which they were setting up a new engine.
It is not known if this project would be concerned. It could just as well involve an already established franchise game.
More recently it was learned that Blizzard had given up a Starcraft FPS project that would have used Overwatch’s engine to focus on the long-awaited Diablo 4 and, it was a surprise, on Overwatch 2.
This is perhaps a serious track…
There are also other job offers, always for a non-advertised project, which refers to a shared game engine. These positions require experience in cross-platform AAA games.
The latest Blizzard cross-platform games are Overwatch and Diablo …
There is also another job offer of executive director for a title Diablo unannounced…
Looks like we’re going to learn a lot of things at this year’s Blizzcon!
