Wesley Snipes Tells Blade Fans to Relax with Marvel’s Choice

When Marvel Studios announced at the San Diego Comic-Con that it had chosen Mahershala Ali to play Blade in the new film adaptation, fans of the original trilogy, which featured Wesley Snipes as the vampire hunter, felt that the actor was betrayed.

That sense of betrayal was reinforced after in 2018 Blade’s original actor said he was still interested in playing the character in a new movie, commenting on Twitter “my fangs are still sharp”.

Although not chosen for the role and surprised by the choice of Marvel, Wesley Snipes said in a statement from ComicBook that all is well and that fans should not be elated.

The Wesley Snipes Reaction

“For all Daywalkers going crazy now, relax. Although the news is a surprise, all is well. This is the entertainment business. Lots of peace for the MCU team – I’ve always been a fan,” said Wesley Snipes. “Honor and respect for the great master Stan.”

“Congratulations and Salaam to Mahershala Ali, a beautiful and talented artist whose expressions I hope to enjoy for many years. Inshallah, let’s work together with one of these days.”

“Most importantly, for my loyal fans, the incredible, overflowing love is overwhelming. I’m grateful for the endless support. So don’t worry, it’s not the end of the story. Welcome to the Daywalker circle.”

Marvel’s new Blade adaptation has no date set yet. We know that it is not part of Phase 4 of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe and therefore will only debut in 2022 or later.
