PS4 is well on its way to overcoming the success and sales of PS2 and Nintendo Wii.
Confirming that more than 100 million PS4 units have been sold, analyst Daniel Ahmad compared sales with previous consoles including PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 2 and PS One.
Of all these consoles, compared to the first 72 months of post-release sales, PS4 has the fastest sales, surpassing PS2, so far Sony’s most successful console, and Nintendo Wii.
With PS5 without a release date and games like Death, Stranding, The Last of Us: Part II and Ghost of Tsushima yet to be released on PS4, the trend is for PS4 to continue its healthy sales in the near future.
However, only time will tell if it will outnumber the PS2 and Nintendo Wii units sold.
Here is an update to the cumulative global console shipment chart.
The chart is launch aligned.
