Antoine Hastoy will be leaving Section Paloise. La Rochelle awaits him

By Georges Lannessans and Julien Duby

The opening half informed his managers that the 2021-2022 season would be his last in Pau. He will wear the colors of the Stade Rochelais for three seasons.

It was in the air, it’s confirmed. The young international opener (24 years old, 1 selection) of the Section Paloise Antoine Hastoy will leave the Béarn club at the end of the season, one year before the end of his contract, which expired in 2023 but had a release clause. The player announced it to his leaders on Tuesday and both parties confirmed it in a statement late in the afternoon. “This decision was difficult to take and I hope it will be understood by all,” the player said in the statement.

“Today, after 11 years at the club, I feel the need for another challenge and to take this new step, I have to get out of my comfort zone. The season which begins will be important for the club and you will be able to count on my unfailing commitment to carry the Section as high as possible with my teammates ”, continues the number 10 of the Green and White, still author of all the points of his team on last weekend against Lyon. If he did not mention it, Antoine Hastoy will join Stade Rochelais for three seasons. Hastoy was indeed the priority target of the Maritimes, while their opener Jules Plisson is at the end of his contract as is Ihaia West.

    Piqueronies “inevitably disappointed”

If the vice-champion of France and Europe will be able to build over time with this authentic hope of French rugby, the blow is hard for the Section, which still hoped, without really believing it, to keep its nugget. “We are inevitably disappointed but respect the choice of Antoine, confides the coach Sébastien Piqueronies, in the same press release. We were waiting for a quick decision from him in order to build and fuel the project of tomorrow. We have no doubts for a second of his involvement and his determination to help grow our project throughout the 10 months ahead of us. “

Trained in the Section, Antoine Hastoy joined the pro workforce in 2017-18 before experiencing his first tenures the following season by replacing the All Black Colin Slade. It became indisputable in 2020 after the latter’s departure. Hastoy got his first cape in the summer of 2021 during the Blues tour of Australia
